Frequently Asked Questions – Candles
How long do your candles burn?
Burn times vary depending on the size and style of the candle. Please refer to the individual product listing for the specific burn time.
How do I care for my candle?
For the best results and safest burn, trim the wick to approximately 5mm before each use. Keep your candle away from draughts and flammable objects, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
For the first burn, we recommend allowing the candle to burn for at least 1 hour, or until the top layer of wax has completely melted. This helps the candle to burn evenly and prevents tunnelling.
How should I store my candle?
Store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat sources and draughts. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
Can I burn my candle all the way to the bottom?
No. For safety, discontinue use when approximately 10mm of wax remains in the container. Never allow the flame to come into direct contact with the container.
Are your candles safe around pets?
Candles should always be kept well away from pets and never left burning unattended. Keep candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface and out of reach of children and animals.
Why is my candle tunnelling?
Tunnelling can happen when a candle is not burned for long enough during its first few uses. Allow the melt pool to reach close to the edges of the container before extinguishing the candle. Always follow the recommended burn times and never burn for longer than the safety guidance provided.
Why is my candle producing soot?
A small amount of soot can occasionally occur, particularly if the wick is too long or the candle is exposed to a draught. Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before each burn and keep the candle away from draughts. If soot appears on the container, allow the candle to cool completely before gently wiping it clean.
Why does my candle look different after burning?
Natural changes to the wax, such as frosting, slight colour variations or changes in the surface appearance, can occur during the life of a candle. These are normal characteristics of wax and do not affect the quality or fragrance of the candle.
Why does my candle have a mushroom-shaped wick?
A small build-up, sometimes known as "mushrooming", can form at the end of a wick during burning. This is normal, but it is important to allow the candle to cool and then trim the wick to approximately 5mm before the next burn.
Can I move my candle while it is burning?
No. Always extinguish the flame and allow the candle and wax to cool before moving it. The container and melted wax can become extremely hot.
Why doesn't my candle smell as strong when it is cold?
The fragrance of a candle can smell different when it is unlit compared with when it is burning. Once the wax is warmed and the fragrance is released into the room, the scent can become much more noticeable.
What should I do if my candle arrives damaged?
If your candle arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible with your order details and photographs of the product and packaging so we can look into this for you.
What are your candle safety recommendations?
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep candles away from children, pets, draughts and anything that could catch fire. Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface and keep them upright while burning. Never move a candle while it is lit or while the wax is melted. Always extinguish the candle before leaving the room or going to sleep.
